1910 Scorpion

scorpionVintage 1910 scorpion drawing. He was included in the 1911 Encyclopedia along with all of the other members of the phylum Anthropoda. (Anthropoda was included in a volume published in 1910.) That means scorpions are close cousins to spiders and even the horseshoe crab.

Scorpions date back to the Silurian era which means they go back in history 430 million years. There are around 1,750 different species of scorpions that have been identified. Thankfully, only around 25 are thought capable of killing us.
