This floral title frame is from a book about Hungarian folktales published in 1907. It was written by Desi Malonyai (1866-1916), a Hungarian writer and art historian. No illustrator was identified. Gutenberg says it is in the public domain in the United States. I think, repeat I think, based on his date of death (over 70 years ago), the work is in the public domain everywhere.
With that out of the way, let’s enjoy this one. It has a decidedly art nouveau sort of style. The central black area originally contained the name of Malyonyai’s book. I think it would be a great place to add your own text. The open areas could easily be colorized too. I love the subtlety of the flowers. They are almost more doodle than flower.
This image is copyright free and in the public domain anywhere that extends copyrights 70 years after death or at least 120 years after publication when the original illustrator is unknown.
