Such a dramatic page-sized wild monkey W image! This drop cap image pretty much covers half a page. It was used to begin a section of Brehm’s Life of Animals. I bet you can even guess which section of the 1895 work it introduced. Yep, the section about apes and monkeys!
The monkey clings to the serif-style W letter image as if it was just another branch to climb. Surrounding the animal and letter is dense foliage; furthering the whole wild aspect of this fancy letter W.
Like so many of these exceptionally large vintage illustrations, I’ve only displayed a smaller version here. To access the full-sized wild monkey W image, just click on it.
