Donkey and Foal

Lovely donkey and foal watercolor from an English artist.

Studies in Animal Painting

Frederick Tayler (1802-1889) was an English watercolorist. Donkey and Foal were included in a small book about watercolor painting just 5 years before his death. It includes a number of charming animal paintings with instructions on color selection, shading and highlighting each animal’s features.

Sweet Donkey Drawing

This donkey and foal drawing was used as the frontispiece for the small painting book in which it appeared. The foal stands to the right and slightly behind his protective mother. Her features are more well-defined but both have a sweet charm about them. The pair are in a grassy area with trees and bushes behind them.
