Black Spanish Chickens

Vintage book illustration of two black Spanish chickens. The book this illustration came from claimed it was unknown whether or not these birds actually came from Spain but they do see to stand upright and proud, almost like a matador. How striking these birds are with their glossy black plumage, bluish legs, red combs and white face. They like being warm. You’ll like that this chicken drawing is in the public domain as are all of our bird images.

It is so much fun finding vintage books full of wonderful illustrations. Thomas E. Hill’s 1882 work Hill’s Album of Biography and Art provided over 200 drawings for this site.
