Boy Angels

Oh, it has been so very long since I have had something I wanted to share in the angels and cherubs section of the page spacers and vignette category. Not only is this one fairly crisp and clear, it is larger than many of the others. The page of the book had an embossed stamp on the facing side and the effect might make this an even better boy angels drawing for mixed media art.

The angels are sitting on either side of a large harp. Each is playing their own trumpet. Their wings look a bit more like a butterfly’s than a traditional angel wing but I think that simply adds to the overall charm of this vintage angel drawing.

This drawing dates back to at least 1888 when it was used in a book by Roden Berkeley Wriothesley Noel (1834-1894) on Thomas Otway (1652-1685).
