Winter Cloak Advertisement

This Civil War era fashion was advertised in a magazine in 1860. The image was originally furnished by Cooper & Conard of Philadelphia who described this winter cloak with the words "Plaited or fall backs continue to be worn, as in our illustrations. The sleeve, or its equivalent, is worn, and deservedly admired; indeed, it is in Mid-Winter a most beautiful necessity, adding, as it does, to comfort, admitting of so much ornament, and presenting so graceful a relief in the front view. The bindings are deep, trimmed rich and neat rather than gaudy, and the cloth a fine black beaver."

Artist: Edited by T.S. Arthur and Miss Virginia F. Townsend with no credit to individual illustrators

Image Appears In: The Lady's Home Magazine Volume XV

Date Image Published: 1860
