Bearded Vulture Illustration

The bearded vulture is one of the few vultures that has feathers on his head. He prefers to eat bone marrow over flesh and is known for dropping bones and even turtles in hopes of cracking the bones or shell for access to the meat within. This vintage colorized illustration of a bearded vulture is copyright free and in the public domain.

The title of this book Birds of Prey, Prang’s Natural History Series for Children bears the name of the publisher. The author was Norman Allison Calkins and the book was published without identifying an illustrator in 1878. How sad when it included so many wonderful bird drawings.
