Umbrella Mishap

I don’t think this is really a drawing about a naughty child; it’s about a child getting tossed about by Mother Nature. The poor little girl in this drawing definitely had an umbrella mishap.

As another young girl runs to her rescue, we see a pair of black-stocking clad legs poking out from underneath an umbrella. The umbrella is laying on the sidewalk, up-side-down as the rain continues to fall.

Though unsigned, this vintage drawing of children is by the wonderful book illustrator Walter Crane (1845–1915). The book was written by the equally famous Mrs. Molesworth and was entitled Little Miss Peggy. It was published in 1887.
