Octopus Shell Drawing

From the it can be cool to learn new things file…this an octopus shell drawing. I didn’t know octopi had shells but apparently the Argonauta Argo does. The shells are white but the octopi can actually have a bluish cast.

This species is found in tropical and subtropical waters worldwide. This vintage octopus shell drawing was found in the multi-volume work of Jean Baptiste Geneviève Marcellin (1778-1846). The 1822 dictionary of natural history contained a virtual treasure trove of sea-life and other colorful drawings.
