An escape made short as the canoe capsizes and dumps our intrepid young explorer overboard into a mountain lake. This is such a great image for anyone looking for humorous images of children for their next scrapbook or other creative project. I love how the artist has the boy’s feet sticking straight up out of the water much like a duck does when it dives for bugs in a pond; particularly with the inclusion of a flock of docks flying onto the scene. The child’s red socks and some river reeds add some color to an otherwise monotone color palette.

This vintage drawing was included in the vintage children’s book Holly Berries. It was illustrated by Ida Waugh (d. 1919) and released in 1881. I’ve included over 100 works of art by Ida Waugh to share with you on Reusable Art.
