Indian Peacock

Did you know the peacock is the national bird of India? I didn’t until I found a book published by the US government in 1996. Since it was published by the government, it falls in the public domain, or at least most of it does. This awesome cover image is free for everyone to use.

This is a traditional illustration depicting the traditional Indian art form of sanzi khaka. It is a traditional paper stencil that is used on festive occasions for floor decorations. They use marble dust and colored powders to make the designs.

This design is done in red, black and shades of gray. The peacock is standing proudly on a field of grass. It’s a nice large drawing that is even too big to show all at once – so you know the drill, click on the bird below to gain access to the larger version.
