Promenade of Fashion

What seems interesting to me about this Civil War-era fashion plate from Godey’s is that even though the ladies are outside, they are not wearing gloves. All of the other fashion images from this year’s magazine volumes showed the ladies wearing white gloves.

Also, while the ribbons that secured the ladies’ headwear remains large, the hats they are attached to vary in size and materials.

It seems a number of dresses showcased in 1860 included decorations down the center of the front of the dress. This group seems to favor white. One dress is pink and another is grey but it looks like the four other ladies are wearing white dresses.

This vintage fashion drawing is in the public domain and can be used in creative projects paying homage to Civil War era fashion.
