Keeping Dry

Black and white drawing of two children and a dog keeping dry under and umbrella. The little boy in this vintage image reminds me of a little schoolboy wearing his uniform. It’s hard to tell, but maybe he has his shoes in his lap to protect them. The little girl, presumably his sister, looks like a little kewpie doll with her crochet scarf wrapped around her head. The pet dog, which is as large as they are, joins the children under a torn umbrella. None of the three looks very happy as the sit on the side of a trail under a tree. More so than anything else, this is a wonderful drawing that represents the concept of sharing.

This is one of those image scans that looks a bit better as you shrink it down a bit. This image of children and their pet is copyright free – so use it freely.

1890 Baby’s Annual Pictures and Stories for Little People supplied almost 100 wonderful images for Reusable Art. D. Lothrop Company filed the copyright in 1889 but since they did not identify an illustrator or author, the copyright held for 120 years. How lucky are we, that these vintage images are now in the public domain?
