This vintage plant image is a lovely, hand-painted illustration of lichen and moss growing on a log. Book plates like this one were often hand-painted by artists not recognized – at Reusable Art, we don’t always know if the images have been hand done or machine produced but our resource clearly indicates this one was hand-colorized.
In this lichen drawing, we have a section of log with brown and white lichen growing on the side and end of the log with some green moss also growing on the bark.
This is one of a number of plant images which appeared in the 1858 publication Lessons From the Vegetable World.
