A Day at the Beach

While this particular image of children at the beach doesn’t actually have any children in it, we put it here because it seemed to fit here better than anywhere else. The tiny pair of shoes and abandoned pail illustrate that a young child is nearby and most likely in the water.

The two ladies in the picture are a great example of Victorian dress at the beach. Beautiful dresses but with long sleeves and a high neck it must have been quite hot to visit the beach during those times.

Whether you use this as an image of children at the beach or for the period costumes, it is copyright free and free to download. It was included in the circa 1879 work Little Snowdrop’s Picture Book published by George Routledge and Sons of London without identifying an illustrator or author.
