Mother Knitting

I have no idea why this illustration includes the creepy vine that seems to be slowly taking over the room. The original publication included a sweet poem about babies growing up and time passing. It is one of the more odd images that I’ve included on Reusable Art but I know there is a demand for vintage knitting images so I’ve gone ahead and included it. The baby in the cradle and the clock on the wall do make the metaphor of time passing, children growing and eventually leaving their mothers is there. Maybe someone a bit more clever with Photoshop than I am can remove the creepy vine thing. But, then again, maybe a bit of weirdness would be more fun. It is from the December 16, 1879, edition of Harper’s Young People.
