Japanese Bird Design

I wish this Japanese bird design was a bit bigger but I thought it was too pretty to not share with you. It’s from a book entitled Designs Selected from Ukiyoe Prints. I can’t tell you too much about the book or the designs as everything is in Japanese and was entirely scanned. But, it does date back to 1860.

It looks as if it might have been a wallpaper or other repeating border design. It features some uneven lines at the bottom and a circular feature image of a pair of Japanese cranes. The entire piece is done in shades of blue but could easily be converted to any other color.
