Paris Fashion 1886

What was fashionable in the autumn of 1886 in Paris? Checks and plaids were according to one observer. During the mid-1880s, the writer mentioned that the cuts of the designs weren't changing all that much but the fabrics were. Paris fashion was somewhat different from England where stripes were a bit more in favor.

Regardless of whether or not this vintage clothing image depicts Paris fashion trends of the 1880s, it's still a great image of a group of fashionable ladies and gentlemen out for a stroll. Each of the four ladies is wearing a different style of dress and hat but all seem to be wearing tight corsets and bustles.
