Sailing the East River

Vintage black and white drawing of a variety of ships sailing the East River under the Brooklyn Bridge. Tall masted sailing ships and single sail boats are at the harbor and on the waterway along with a bid steamer. This public domain sailing ship drawing was part of the opening day ceremonies for the Brooklyn Bridge.

This is one of two wonderful drawings of the Brooklyn Bridge that were included in the commemorative program from the Opening Ceremonies of the New York and Brookly Bridge, May 24, 1883. It was compiled by William C. Kingsley, Seth Low and Franklin Edson and printed by the Brooklyn Eagle Job Printing Department.
