Ship Board Romance

Vintage drawing of a romantic couple at sea by the artist Leonard Leslie Brooke (1862-1940). Though published in 1907, the book, Stolen Treasure, in which it appeared tells a story of buccaneers and the pirate Captain Morgan rather than one of a ship board romance. It also means that the clothing is more representative of the 1600s. This black and white line drawing is perfectly suited to be added to a mixed media piece – the clothing could easily be colorized as well as the ship’s rail, the ocean and the fluffy clouds in the sky. Could you just see a bright red sash around the man’s waist and the lady wearing a brightly colored dress?
