The Huddle

A group of Victorian children meeting up to confer. The youngest child appears to have been excluded from the huddle and stands crying outside the circle.  A mixture of girls and boys are included in this fun drawing. I could see it on a scrapbook page with a family football game.

It’s also a great picture for a variety of metaphors like excluded, conferring, plotting.

This drawing and a number of our other drawings of children are from the artist Ida Waugh (d. 1919). This one was included in the 1881 work Holly Berries.
