John D. Batten (1860-1932) is the illustrator behind this charming bird image from Europa’s Fairy Book. Two young children creep around the shore grasses to spy on a happy duck. This black and white drawing of a duck and two children is charming as it is or it could easily be colorized. We left the two children in the picture but they could be quickly cropped off for anyone needing an image of a duck alone.
This image is copyright free and in the public domain anywhere that extends copyrights 70 years after death or at least 120 years after publication when the original illustrator is unknown.
